imageISLAMABAD: Ministry of Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony has set up a National Committee on Sectarian Harmony to control sectarianism and promote tolerance among the public.

The committee would start its work during this week, Parliamentary Secretary for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony Khalil George Monday said this during question hour in the National Assembly.

He said the government was taking several steps to control sectarianism including the Ministry has regularly been organizing National Seerat Conference on 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal every year at Islamabad, wherein prominent ulema, mashaikh, scholars and people from all walks of life participate.

Khalil George said that competitions of seerat books, naat and articles on life, teachings and Seerah of Muhammad (SAWS) are organized in regional, national and international languages for men and women.

Maqalat-e-Seerat are published and distributed amongst the libraries, institutions and desiring persons.

The programme of National Seerat Conference is projected by print & electronic media every year on the occasion of 12th Rabi-ul-Awwal to promote sectarian harmony in the country, he said.

He said that Minister for Religious Affairs and Inter-faith Harmony held meetings with the Ulema of all Muslim sects across the country to promote sectarian harmony.

Parliamentary Secretary said that Ministry has prepared a calendar of unified timings for Azan and Prayers which has been provided to all mosques of Islamabad for implementation.

To another question, he said the federal government has been reported 19 cases of conversation including Wani and Swara and 28 forced marriages cases has been reported since 2013 by the Punjab government.
