imageDI KHAN: The district police Monday claimed to have arrested a total of 1548 suspects in various operations and seized a large number of arms and ammunition from their possession during the last month.

Stepping up security, District Police Officer (DPO) Sadiq Hussain Baloch led 23 strike and search operations against outlaws across the district, arresting 758 suspects and 57 proclaimed offenders in addition to the 790 other suspected persons who were taken into custody during snap checking at 258 points set up across the district over the month of February, says an official source.

The police also arrested 15 Afghan nationals for staying illegally during the same period.

A large number of weapons including nine Kalashnikov, 14 rifles, 31 guns, 28 pistols, three knives and 780 cartridges, wines, hashish and opium etc were recovered from possession of the accused.

The source adds during those operations, the police checked 2797 houses and 279 hotels in various parts of the district during the month.

Similarly, concerned police officials inspected securing arrangements of over 2393 educational institutions operating across the district.

The police issued challans to 4556 vehicles for violating traffic rules, yielding Rs. 15, 68,700 to the national kitty during the same period. The DPO says that the district police are committed to protecting life and property of the citizens and those who violates would be dealt with sternly.

However, he called upon the people to cooperate with police and keep eye on suspicious persons to ensure peace and harmony in the district.

He said duties being performed by police officials are praise worthy and people should be provided relief and further sense of security, he adds.

He said it was the prime responsibility of the police to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens and activities of anti-social elements should be curbed for relief to the citizens.

He said the crackdown against the anti-social elements would continue and no one would be allowed to disrupt peace in the district.
