imageKARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, has said that Sindh has potential and resources required for the production of power and it is also a better place to invest particularly in power generation sector the province has a number of incentives to offer and attract foreign investors.

This he said while holding meeting with the President of Dangfang Electric Corporation (DEC) and its top management in its head office in Chengdu, China.

A statement issued from the CM House here on Thursday pointed out that the Chief Minister expressed his desire to DEC which is one of the top leading companies having expertise in the power generation through hydel, tidal, wind, solar and coal to untap the resources of coal in Thar and produce power by utilising Thar coal and establishing a coal power plan.

The President of DEC, SI Zefu, acknowledged the potential and resources in Sindh available for the production of power and showed immense interest to invest in Sindh province particularly in the production of electricity by hydel, solar, wind and coal resources.

The President of DEC not only accepted the offer of Chief Minister to send a delegation to visit Sindh and to make an agreement for the mining of one of the blocks of the Thar coal and to generate power from the coal after mining.

The Chief Minister appreciated the DEC for the establishment of Lakhra Power Plant, Ghazi Barotha Plant and Nandipur Power Plant.

Meanwhile, Syed Qaim Ali Shah in another meeting with the Chairman of Sichuan Hejia Seed Industry Co. Limited invited the delegation of the company to visit Sindh for detailed deliberation and future joint venture in the different areas of hybrid seeds production, training to farmers for high yield and collaborate with private stakeholders for establishment of controlled- atmosphere cold storages at Agro Export Processing Zone in Karachi.

During the meeting, the Sindh Chief Minister was briefed about the initiatives taken by the company for the development and introduction of hybrid seeds in the wheat, rice, cotton and different fruits.

The company showed interest in joint venture in research and development (R&D), establishment of controlled- atmosphere cold storages and up gradation of agriculture labs in Sindh.

The Chief Minister appreciated the efforts and achievements of the company in the field of R&D, introduction of different varieties of seeds and techniques for the better yield of agriculture produces.

The Chairman of the company accepted the offer of the Chief Minister and made a commitment to visit Sindh with a high power delegation for the said activities in joint venture.
