At the beginning of the meeting, the Chief Justice welcomed the Judges and shared that the meeting has been convened with a view to appreciate the services rendered by one of brother Judge Justice Tariq Parvez who is going to lay down the robes of office on Thursday and the second purpose of the meeting is to take stock of the performance of the Supreme Court in terms of dispensation of justice and disposal of cases for redressal of grievances of public litigant.

Praising the services of Justice Tariq Parvez for judiciary, rule of law and supremacy of the Constitution, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary said that the brother Judge worked hard to perform his Constitutional duties over and above his personal interest, he did his job with full commitment, dedication and honesty.

The Chief Justice paid tributes to the outstanding legal career of Justice Tariq Parvez both as a lawyer and as a Judge.

He thanked the other Judges for making it convenient to attend this full court meeting which is being traditionally convened to say goodbye to a member of the apex court on his retirement.

The other Judges of the Supreme Court also recalled the services of Justice Tariq Parvez for strengthening the institution of judiciary being a lawyer, a Judge and a person endowed with rare qualities of head and heart and the ability to write quality judgments and dispense justice freely and fairly.

In the last full court meeting while examining the statistics of institution, disposal and pendency of cases in the Supreme Court a coherent and practical strategy for reducing the pendency and categorization of cases was chalked out.

In pursuance of the policy, benches were constituted at Branch Registries and categorization of cases was carried out to diminish the backlog, the release said.

The Judges worked hard beyond the normal call of duty with a view to diminish the backlog. The meeting examined the statistics of institution in detail and disposal of cases relating to the last three months was also discussed and expressed it satisfactory.

The full court also discussed different ways and means to clear the backlog/pendency and it was mutually agreed that as tentative strategy at least two benches at Lahore and one at Peshawar may continue further to diminish the backlog in order to provide speedy justice to litigants as well as public at large.
