fbrISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance here on Monday recommended Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to extend the date for filing tax returns without any fine till January 15.

The recommendation was made in the meeting of committee held with Khawaja Sohail Mansoor in the chair to facilitate and give opportunity to the tax return filers.

Besides, the committee also directed FBR to establish Tax Facility Centre in the National Assembly House to facilitate the parliamentarians.

In addition, the booklets containing the information about FBR should also be dispatched to Lawmakers, the committee recommended.

The member of committee, Bushra Gohar said that online form for filing returns of tax should be friendly and easy.

Apart from this, online form should be available in every language as any one can easily go through and fill out for filing tax returns, she said.

The committee further directed FBR to submit the tax detail of officers of grade 21 and above.

Abdul Rasheed Godil informed the committee that about Rs.67000 per year was being deducted from salary of each parliamentarian as tax.

"Why this amount was not reflected any where in the record of FBR", Godil asked the FBR authorities.

The FBR informed the committee that there were 1.8 million National Tax Number (NTN) holders in the country and 0.9 million of total were paying tax.

"The investigation is going on in the matter of leakage of information of tax detail of lawmakers, FBR said adding that as soon as it was completed, the report would be revealed.

Meanwhile, Managing Director (MD) PIA, Junaid Younus said that the PIA was operating in the profit since last 3 months after taking charge by new management.

"The fuel is one of the main reasons of losses because of the price fluctuation of fuels in the international markets", Younus said.

PIA is buying new 5 aircrafts on lease which will help us to earn more and restructuring the process would help in reducing the cost, MD informed the committee.
