imageISLAMABAD: Sugar is not available in 2 kg packing at the Utility Stores Corporation (USC) outlets in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad creating problems for low income people and daily wagers.

Buyers at a Utility Store in Sadiqabad Rawalpindi Wednesday told APP that the government was providing sugar at subsidized rates, but still it was not possible for the low income people to purchase the commodity in 5 kg packing.

They said they tried to make their both meet in meagre income. They could also buy the sugar, if it was available in 2 kg packing.

When asked, the store manager said limited number of 2 kg packs of sugar were provided, which were sold within short time..

A USC official, when contacted, told APP that the corporation could not increase the number of 2 kg packs as it would increase the cost. "We are already giving a substantial subsidy on sugar and it takes extra charges if we provide the commodity in 2 kg packs instead of 5 kg."
