ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira on Friday said that the government had created a conducive environment for media enabling it to flourish in the country.
"We believe in freedom and independence of media as a free and responsible media is imperative to strengthen the democracy and democratic institutions," he said during the meeting with a PFUJ delegation, which called on him here.
The implementation status of 7th Wage Board Award was discussed in detail in the meeting.
The Information Minister assured his full cooperation regarding the implementation of the wage board award.
He also directed the official of ministry to send a letter to the APNS for nominees as the government was determined to frame the 8th Wage Board Award.
The minister acknowledged the sacrifices of journalists, which they had rendered for democracy by raising their voice against oppression.
He said that the government was committed to ensure collective welfare of the journalists and provide them protection so that they could perform their professional duties in the best manner.
Kaira said that the Pakistan Peoples Party always struggled for the rights of common man and workers.
