Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Monday said that Pakistan Army will continue to support national institutions as and when asked in accordance with the Constitution.

The top military brass in its 226th Corps Commanders' Conference said that Pakistan Army is an organ of the state and it will support national institutions while adding that the military will not let any kind of vested agenda derail the stability process which the nation has attained through cohesive national efforts and sacrifices.

"We have attained better internal security and stability through cohesive national efforts and sacrifices rendered by Pakistan's armed forces, all national institutions and above all the nation. We shall not let it reverse to suit any vested agenda at any cost," the military leadership said.

The military's assurance of support to the Imran Khan-led government comes at a time when JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, along with all major opposition parties, has staged an anti-government 'Azadi March' sit-in in Islamabad.

DG ISPR Major General Asif Ghafoor, however, clarified that Pakistani Army is an impartial state institution, which always supports democratically-elected governments in accordance with the Constitution.

The Corps Commanders' Conference reviewed geo-strategic and national security environment and discussed internal security and situation along the eastern border, Line of Control (LoC) and Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The military commanders expressed firm resolve to defend the country against full spectrum threat at the meeting, it added.

Speaking on the occasion, General Qamar said, "Pakistan's armed forces with support of national institutions and the nation are fully prepared and committed to thwarting all threats including on the eastern border". He added that the continued cohesion of all national stakeholders on key national issues is essential to defeat "inimical forces".

Maulana Fazlur Rehman while addressing the participants of the march called upon the state institutions to stay impartial and stop supporting the Imran Khan-led government. Although he didn't name any institution, it is widely believed that his reference was towards Pakistan Army.
