New Delhi, which is facing criticism for its atrocities in Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK), is cutting down exports of military equipment to Turkey in retaliation amid growing defence ties between Turkey and Pakistan.

According to Economic Times, the export authorizations for sensitive equipment of defence to Turkey are being withheld and not likely to be processed soon, amid the statements by Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on IoK and the country’s increasing arms exports to Pakistan.

The Turkish President had urged India to hold talks with Pakistan over the disputed region following Modi’s August decision to revoke autonomy in the Muslim-majority state.

Similar tactic was used by India against Malaysia as well, after Indian traders urged a boycott of Malaysian palm oil, after Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's criticism of New Delhi's actions in the disputed region of Kashmir.

On Monday, India's top vegetable oil trade body asked its members to stop buying Malaysian palm oil after Mahathir said at the United Nations General Assembly last month that India had “invaded and occupied Kashmir", a disputed Muslim-majority region also claimed by Pakistan.

“We speak our minds, and we don't retract or change," Mahathir told reporters outside parliament on Tuesday. “What we are saying is we should all abide by resolutions of the [United Nations]. Otherwise, what is the use of the U.N.?" he added.
