imageLAHORE: A spokesman of Punjab government Zaeem Hussain Qadri MPA has said that it is the priority of the government to evacuate stranded people and shift them to safer places.

"A package of Rs 1.5 billion has already been announced for the rehabilitation of affected families displaced owing to recent floods," he added.

In a brief conversation with media in his office, he said, 90 per cent of the flood-hit people had been shifted from flooded areas to safer places where they were being provided relief goods.

For the rehabilitation of flood victims, he said, the government had set up 500 relief camps. He said, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was personally monitoring the relief works for flood victims.

He said, damages caused by floods were being assessed and the government would compensate all the victims.

He said, payment of Rs 20,000 to each flood-hit family would be made before Eidul Azha.
