ISLAMABAD: Former Test Cricketer Sarfraz Nawaz said our bowlers need to deliver more as the Green-shirts are not the same they used to be in the department of bowling before.
Talking to APP, Sarfraz praised the Pakistan team for thumping down Zimbabwe in the first ODI. Pakistan beat Zimbabwe by 41 runs in the first ODI while the second ODI will be played on May 29.
Sarfraz said he cannot understand when legendary bowler Waqar Younis is the coach but still the bowlers are not doing well. "Zimbabwe team was able to score 334 runs in the first ODI just because our bowlers gave them runs," he said.
Sarfraz said Wahab Raiz did well bagging 3 wickets in 10 overs for 47 runs but what did the rest of the bowlers do. "Anwar Ali was picked in the team from his domestic performance but now see he just took 1 wicket giving 81 runs in 10 overs. Same is the case with aging Muhammad Sami, he took no wicket in 7 overs giving 63 runs," he said.
Sarfraz said selectors need to show confidence in the youngsters as the Twenty-20 World Cup is next year and its preparations should start now. However he praised Malik for his brilliant performance with the bat saying I believe that now Malik has earned a permanent place in the side. "Hafeez, Azhar and Harris have showed the fans that what passion lies in the players when they are playing at their home," he said.
Sarfraz said the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should make the most out of this tour, as it the first Test playing nation who is touring Pakistan since 2009. "I feel many other teams would be interested in visiting Pakistan after this tour ends," he said.
