CAIRO: At least nine Egyptians were killed and 30 people injured, including an American and a Russian, in a tourist bus accident in southern Egypt on Tuesday, officials said.
The bus collided with another vehicle near the city of Beni Suef, about 120 kilometres (75 miles) south of Cairo, while travelling along a desert road from the temple city of Luxor to the Egyptian capital.
"Nine people were killed and 30 others, including two foreigners, were injured in the crash," said Dr Ahmed Anwar from the Beni Suef ambulance service.
He said the two injured foreigners were an American man and a Russian woman, while those killed were all Egyptians.
Security officials, who confirmed the death toll, said the tourist bus was engulfed in flames after its fuel tank exploded upon hitting the other vehicle.
Traffic accidents are common in Egypt where roads are often poorly maintained and traffic regulations little enforced.
