imageISLAMABAD: Director General Intellectual Property Organization (IPO) Aamir Hassan Saturday said intellectual property rights were crucial for competitive economy in the backdrop of ongoing globalization.

A comprehensive strategy and action plan regarding IP rights has been finalized and sent to the Cabinet Division for approval, he said in a statement.

"Media can play pivotal role in raising awareness of

the menace of counterfeiting and piracy affecting the rights of consumers and investors," he added.

The Director General said public awareness activities and training facilities regarding IP protection were being extended at grass-roots level with the cooperation of provincial governments and corporate sector.

Aamir Hassan siad special emphasis was being laid on studies and preparation of IP strategies for different small and medium enterprises (SME) sectors, including women entrepreneurs.

He said at the movement IPO was holding awareness workshops and programmes in collaboration with different educational institutions to promote the IP culture in the country.

He said the IPO would also organize a one day seminar in connection with World IP Day, which celebrated on April 26.
