ISLAMABAD: A Twenty eight member Women Peace Coalition led by Executive Director PAIMAN Trust Mossarat Qadeem left for India under peace initiative to share experience with Indian counterparts on women building peace on either side of the divide.
The group comprising parliamentarians, educationists, business women and social activists will attend several forums aimed at highlighting the inclusion of women in Peace Processes. The group will also meet their Indian counterparts comprising Media personnel, business women, civil society and elected representatives.
Underscoring the importance of inclusion of women in Peace Process viz-a-viz Indo-Pak relations, Executive Director PAIMAN Mossarat Qadeem said, "For the last sixty five years hundreds of peace dialogues, meetings, conferences, agreements at the official and non-official levels have been attempted but the stalemate persists and our relations are marred by animosity and mistrust."
The cross border initiative is aimed to lay the foundation for a sustainable coalition of Pakistani and Indian women equipped to advocate for developing understanding and play their pro-active role in confrontation and peace discourse between the two countries.
Recognizing the potential of both Pakistani and Indian women Ms Qadeem showed optimism that the group would search for potential of under-explored avenues, such as economic, educational and cultural cooperation, as a vehicle for ameliorating tensions.
The interaction between the women of the two sides would help in developing understanding on issues faced by women and may pave the way for peaceful co-existence between the neighbouring states.
