imageISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday made it clear that the recruitment/appointments in NAB were completely based on merit with a clear defined procedure and no deviation has been made in the processes.

"In NAB, all procedure have been adopted in letter and spirit including advertisement, clearly spelling out the prerequisite including qualification, experience etc. based on the same advertisement(s) proper tests/interviews have been conducted and all those who fulfilled the prerequisite and after due process of interviews top in merit were selected against the vacant available vacancies fulfilling the provincial quota," said a NAB statement issued here.

The statement added that in order to fight with corruption, the Bureau has been striving hard to fill these vacant seats.

"The process began in early 2011 after which proper advertisements were made for various level appointments starting from BPS-16 upto the level of DG NAB," the statement added.

"It is unjust to discuss appointments of any specific grade in isolation, without having seen credential of the selected officers rather it is misleading and are likely to cause undue injury to the reputation of the said officers in particular and organization in general," the statement said.

"With regard to posting of these officers, it may be clarified that after the induction of four senior officers, the then Chairman NAB posted Col (R) Shehzad Bhatti as DG (KPK)," the NAB statement said.

"Whereas Zahir Shah, the newly selected officer, was posted as DG Ops/Financial Crime Investigation Wing, Lt. Col (R) Sirajul Naeem has been placed as DG T&E with regard to NAO 1999 section 28(c), it is mentioned that under this clause, Terms & Conditions of Service for NAB has been duly approved by the Chief Executive vide SRO No. 780(I)2002 (copy attached). In the preamble it is Chief Executive or Prime Minister who can change any of the condition of TCS/MAQs," the statement concluded.
