ISLAMABAD: The Christian community living across the country is all set to celebrate Christmas, their most important religious festival, to mark the birth anniversary of the Jesus Christ on December 25 falling on Tuesday.
Men and women, both young and old, with joyous faces are busy in making preparations to celebrate the event with religious fervour and enthusiasm.
They will gather at midnight before Christmas day to ring the church bells signifying the time for worship and light up the Christmas tree while youngsters will sing melodious carols to lift the spirit of the people.
Christmas is the time which brings happiness for the people, who get together to feast and pray. These are memorable moments that are sacred and blessed.
Since early days, Christmas is celebrated culturally and religiously as a major festival by the believers of Christianity.
The traditions associated with the festival primarily include Christmas trees, Santa Claus and Christmas gifts. Santa Claus attracts people with his bright red and snowy white costumes. The jolly white-bearded man serves the people with gifts, best wishes and sweets.
The members of Christian community decorate the evergreen coniferous tree, sometime artificial which is usually decked with different ornaments, including baubles, small bells painted gold or silver, stars of different shapes and sizes, pine cones, apples, candies, tinsel and balloons made from glass, metal, wood and ceramic. An angel and star is often placed at the top of the tree representing the host of angels, said Youhana, a seller of decorative items in a local market, while talking to APP.
On this occasion, sweet sellers make special Christmas cakes with greeting texts that people gift each other to show their love and care.
With the world becoming a global village, the spirit of Christmas crosses borders and its festivities in different parts of the world can be enjoyed by the people through electronic and social media.
The Government of Pakistan, like religious festivals of other minorities, not only celebrates the Christmas on officially, but faciltates the followers of Christianity to perform their religious obligations with zeal and fevour.
