narcoticsISLAMABAD: The Anti Narcotics Policy 2010 outlines a number of objectives targeting supply reduction, demand reduction and international cooperation, developed in accordance with international best practice.

This was stated by an official of Narcotics Ministry while talking to APP here on Tuesday, adding that ministry is responsible for formulating and coordinating the implementation of Anti-Narcotics Policy. However, he said this is a shared responsibility of the government and society.

He said that to alleviate the root causes of the drug problem both the government and society need to promote the socio-economic environment and values that restrict the space for drug abuse.

He said that the Anti-Narcotics Policy aims to re-energize existing national Drug Law Enforcement institutions, build the Anti Narcotics Force capacity, develop an effective coordination and control mechanism and mobilize the people - especially youth and institutions to ensure their active participation in eradicating drugs.

"This policy also seeks to promote international cooperation for mutual support and partnership against narcotic drugs" he remarked.
