imagePakistani legendary ghazal singer Ghulam Ali’s concert in Mumbai this week was cancelled due to the threat of extremist Hindu party Shiv Sena.

Shiv Sena threatened to cancel Ghulam Ali’s concert in Mumbai. As per reports, the supporters of Shiv Sena while protesting stated that they don’t want to build any cultural bond with Pakistan. They said that strict action would be taken if Pakistani singer performs in the concert.

According to NDTV, Ghulam Ali expressed his disappointment at the unfortunate turn of events. “I’m not angry, but very hurt. I have always got love in India,” he said. The concert was a tribute to Jagjit Singh [prominent Indian ghazal singer]. “He was like a brother to me. Such controversies spoil the sur of music,” he added.

This is not the first time that the Shiv Sena is opposing Pakistani artistes performing in India. Few months back, Pakistani singer Atif Aslam’s concert at Pune was cancelled following the same threats from the party. The Organizers of Ghulam Ali's concert in Mumbai announced cancellation of the event after Shiv Sena threatened to disrupt it, warning that no artiste from Pakistan will be allowed to perform in the city till terror emanating from across the border is stopped.

Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra, who handles the law, art and culture portfolios in the Arvind Kejriwal-led government, has now invited Ghulam Ali to perform at a concert in the national capital. “Sad that Ghulam Ali is not being allowed in Mumbai, I invite him to come to Delhi and do the concert. Music has no boundaries,” Mishra wrote on Twitter.

Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali is famous for ghazals like `Chupke Chupke Raat Din’ and `Awargi’ has a massive fan following in Pakistan as well in India.
