imageThanks to the technology geniuses out there, one can now chat with people even when there is no regular Internet connection.

A new app called FireChat could literally end the days of data plans allowing you to chat with family and friends without data packages or WiFi signals thanks to a relatively new technology called ‘mesh networking.’

The travel friendly FireChat, created by a startup called Open Garden, uses this mesh networking which allows users to communicate wirelessly on their smartphones without being connected to the Internet, reported Skift.

It works by sending messages using Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas wirelessly, from one FireChat equipped phone to another, according to Business Insider. Similar to a pinball until it reaches one with internet. Then the message moves to its destination as it does.

And the crunch is if there’s no connection near, the messages will be stored until the app can find one. This could take some time though up to 20 minutes to deliver your message. However, one can text from everywhere without roaming charges.

And the other good news, that the messages are encrypted, meaning that your privacy remains protected in this process.

Up to 5 million mobile users have downloaded the app, the app creators are of the view that messages can be delivered in about 10 minutes as long as 5 percent of a city’s population has the app, reported TechCrunch.
