After breaking numerous records overseas and becoming the fastest film to gross over a Rs.100 crores Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's ‘Chennai Express’ is now the biggest grosser of 2013, and reportedly the third biggest grosser in Bollywood history.
The Rohit Shetty directed film has already crossed 200 crores collection in the domestic markets and now is on the brink of smashing the all-time record held by ‘3 Idiots’ at the box office. Reportedly, the film has collected around Rs. 200.55 crores in just 2 week, surpassing Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ that earned Rs. 198 crores.
The action comedy flick was produced on a budget of about Rs 75 crores and has been shattering one record after another since its release on August 8th earlier this month.
So far, some of the film’s accolades include: highest collections in previews ever, the highest 1st day ever, the highest 2nd day ever, the highest 3rd day ever and fastest to gross 150 crores. Whether or not ‘Chennai Express’ will smash the record previously set by ‘3 Idiots’ remains to be seen, though at this rate it’s almost a guarantee.
