KARACHI: Keeping in view the sanctity and beauty of the mausoleum of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the design of the Green bus project has been changed.

This was stated by the Advisor to the Prime Minister on National History and Literary Heritage as well as the chairman of the Quaid-i-Azam's Mazar Management Board, Irfan Siddiqui.

After chairing a meeting of the Mazar Management Board here on Thursday, he told APP that every step would be taken for maintaining the sanctity and beauty of the mausoleum of the Founder of Pakistan.

He said that no permission would be granted for any commercial activity within the precincts of the Mazar.

Ifran Siddiqui informed that company working on Greenline Bus Service Project- Karachi Infrastructure Development Company (KIDCL) had sought permission to use a portion of the premises. However, the Board rejected such a request.

He said that on the suggestion of the Mazar Management Board, the company has changed the design of the project and the route has been made underground near premises of the mazar so that its beauty should be maintained.

The Advisor stated that the federal government has approved the establishment of `Greater Quaid-i-Azam Park' within the premises of the mausoleum. This would be `Mini-Pakistan Park' and funds have been allocated for the initial work.

He said that the park would depict the geographical and cultural heritage of all the provinces and regions of the country. The park would span over an area of 35 acres.

A new chandelier, gifted by the government of Peoples Republic of China, has been installed whereas the old one would also be preserved.

Ifran Siddiqui informed that under the auspices of the Mazar Management Board a water treatment plant of the capacity of 100,000 gallon per day would be installed for maintaining greenery at the mausoleum as well as other parks and greenbelts in the metropolis.

The project would cost a sum of Rs. 60 million whereas Rs. 30 million has been made available for this purpose.

The Advisor said that on public demand, the timings of the Quaid's Mazar have been enhanced for an hour and would now remained opened upto 6.30 p.m.

He stated that the Mazar Management Board was `inactive' for several years in the past while the present government made it active by coming up with a new Board. So far the board has held three meetings.
