afridi-1024KARACHI: Pakistan’s star all rounder, Shahid Afridi has joined Pakistan Super league’s (PSL) franchise Karachi Kings (KK) as its president.

The 36-year-old, who recently parted ways from Peshawar Zalmi, was graciously welcomed by the KK team owner Salman Iqbal.

As per reports, Afridi is likely to feature for the team as a player, too, in the upcoming third edition of PSL, though this is yet to be confirmed; the PSL's trading window ahead of the next edition is yet to open.

Afridi had tweeted on March 25 that he was "announcing my end of service as president & player of Peshawar Zalmi Team due to my personal reasons".

"Won the cup with 1 team, time for another. I am announcing my end of service as president & player of Peshawar Zalmi Team due to my personal reasons," the former Pakistan captain had tweeted.

"My best wishes with Peshawar Zalmi and as far as my Peshawar fans are concerned I know they are with me wherever I go," he added.

It is pertinent to mention here that, Afridi led Peshawar Zalmi in the first edition of PSL but stepped aside from captaincy after being named as the president of franchise's ahead of the second edition and handed over the captaincy to Darren Sammy.

Meanwhile PSL's official account tweeted: "Player transfer/retention can be decided/announced only during respective window by PSL Secretariat. Anything else is unofficial, unapproved."

However, KK owner Salman Iqbal confirmed the news, “Delighted!honoured to welcome true Pakistani cricketing legend n superstar @SAfridiOfficial as President,” he posted on social media.
