China has criticized US President-elect Donald Trump over his use of Twitter to conduct international diplomacy in a commentary published by the country's official news agency Xinhua on Thursday.
In a tweet late Monday, Donald Trump suggested that China wasn't doing enough to rein in its nuclear-armed neighbour North Korea.
Trump wrote on social media website, Twitter that Chinese leaders should be helping to stop North Korea's development of nuclear weapons, especially because China has been benefiting greatly from trade with the United States.
"China has been taking out massive amounts of money & wealth from the US in totally one-sided trade, but won't help with North Korea," Trump tweeted."Nice!"
According to a report published on CNN.com, Trump makes unpredictable statements on Twitter that often depart from long-standing US policies and he's made several controversial comments about China, which wants Trump to stop trolling them on Twitter.
In response, China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang advised Trump to "avoid remarks and actions to escalate the situation," and argued that China's efforts in the matter were "widely recognized."
Meanwhile, China's official Xinhua news agency attacked Trump's Twitter proclivity in an editorial titled An obsession with Twitter foreign policy is undesirable." Chris Buckley of The New York Times translates:
Everyone recognizes the common sense that foreign policy isnt childs play, and even less is it like doing business deals, said the article. Twitter shouldnt become an instrument of foreign policy, the article said.
