ISLAMABAD: The veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, has appealed people to observe complete shutdown on May 30 (Wednesday) to press the demand for providing justice to the family of two Kashmiri women who were abducted, raped and later killed by men in uniform, three years ago.

Syed Ali Gilani said the two women, Neelofar and Asiya, were first raped and then murdered on May 30, 2009 in Shopian but the perpetrators were still roaming free, KMS reported.

The veteran leader appealed traders, students, transporters and employees to make the strike call successful. "They (authorities) do not allow us to come on roads, they resort to teargas shelling, beat us.

So this is the only way to register our protest," he said.

Syed Ali Gilani castigated the puppet administration for stopping him from offering Friday prayers. "From April 6, I have been stopped from offering Friday prayers. They actually put me under house arrest from Wednesday evening. It is direct interference in religious affairs and the worst kind of barbarism," he added.

He said the puppet authorities under a nefarious design were preventing Hurriyet leaders from meeting the masses to make people forget sacrifices. "On the dent of police and military Raj they don't allow us to express our resentment against the illegal rule.

More than 64 years have passed but India continues to be stubborn. Conspiracies were hatched to house arrest leaders, jail young people, not to allow contact programme. If ever we move outside, they monitor every activity of ours," he maintained.

The veteran leader pointed out that sentiment of Azadi couldnot be suppressed through such tactics. "Those who participated in elections too acknowledge that sentiment of Azadi prevails and it cannot be suppressed," he added.
