ISLAMABAD: Minister for Communication Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan on Thursday informed the National Assembly that National Highway Authority (NHA) has planed widening, up-gradation and realignment of Karakoram Highway (N-35) in different packages.
Replying to a question during Question Hour, he said that the Chinese Government would provide loan for Attaabad Lake section of Karakoram Highway and work would be started on it next month. However, he said that the realignment of this section would take two years.
To another question, the minister said that NHA has a road network of around 12,200 kilometers and efforts were being made to involve private sector for tree plantations along all highways and motorways. Recently, Pakistan Tobacco Company has planted 35,000 saplings along M-1, he added.
Meanwhile Minister for Information Technology Raja Pervaiz Ashraf informed the House that there is no proposal under consideration to set up mobile phone factories in the country with collaboration of China. However, he said plan afoot to expand information technology network across the country particularly far flung and remote areas.
