pak-china ISLAMABAD: A high powered delegation of the China Investment Corporation (CIC) was briefed about the tremendous investment opportunities with high returns and profits, available in various sectors of economy, including oil and gas, road and railways infrastructures and urged to capitalise the optimum investment opportunities in Pakistan.

 

The China Investment Corporation (CIC) delegation, which is currently visiting Pakistan to explore avenues for investments in various sectors of economy, is led by its President Gao Xiqing.

 

During the briefing, Minister for Railways Haji Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, Minister for Communications Arbab Alamgir Khan and Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain and senior officials of the federal government were also present.

 

The ministers on the occasion welcomed the delegation and said that China had always supported Pakistan in the building of infrastructure in the socio-economic development of Pakistan and invited the Chinese investors to take benefit from the investment and libelirized policies of Pakistan and benefit from the investment opportunities for their own benefit and socio economic prosperity of Pakistan and its people.

 

The Minister for Railways said that Pakistan offered tremendous opportunities in railway projects, which were profitable for investors.

 

He said that Pakistan railways needed to upgrade its network, including operating of the railway trains on electricity, besides improving the tracks from Lahore-Peshawar, Lahore-Quetta, Karachi-Peshawar and Gawadar-Mastuj and then to Iran.

 

These railways network improvement and development projects, he said, offered opportunities for investment and Chinese companies could take benefit of it.

 

In his remarks Minister for Communication Arbab Alamgir Khan and Secretary /Chairman National Highways Authority highlighted various road infrastructure project meant to promote North South Corridor to connect Pakistan from China to Gawadar through Karakorum Highway(KKH) and regional connectivity with Afghanistan-Iran to Central Asian Republics and upto Turkey.

 

The Secretary NHA briefed the CIC delegation that China should dedicate $ 5 billion the NHA's NTC programme during next five years.

 

Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr.Asim Hussain welcomed the Chinese delegation and added that Pakistan is promising country for their investments in the sector with vast opportunities for investment in oil and gas, coal and mineral resources.

 

He added that Chinese investors and companies should come and invest in this sector for their own benefit and prosperity of Pakistan.

Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources briefed the delegation about the investment opportunities in the sector.

 

He told them that Pakistan's Thar coal mines have reserves of 176 billion tons which is untapped yet and Chinese investors can look into investment in this area too.

 

He added that recently Pakistan has announced pro investment petroleum policy in order to encourage the investors in this field.

 

He added that discovery rate in the exploring area is also encouraging.

 

He was of the view that Chinese investors have not looked towards oil and gas sector in Pakistan.

 

He also informed that Pakistan has an extensive network of gas supply in the country and needs to expand it further.

 

He also highlighted that the province of Balochistan has reserves of copper, gold and other minerals and urged Chinese investors to participate in the exploration process.

 

He also highlighted the opportunities of exploration of oil and gas and other minerals in various areas of the provinces.

 

The CIC delegation, head its President Gao Xiqing appreciated the presentations on the investment opportunities in various sector in Pakistan.
