Pakistani cricketer Salman Butt has been told by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to accept spot fixing charges placed on him or face ban for 5 more years.
According to Press Trust of India (PTI), a senior Board official said the PCB had been in constant touch with Butt and his lawyer in this regard but so far the former captain was not willing to admit his full and direct involvement in the spot-fixing scandal during the fourth Test at Lord’s five years ago. However, The PCB official said that this five-year suspended ban could be added up if Butt did not meet with the requirements of the ICC’s anti-corruption code.
Another Pakistani player Muhammad Amir, who was also part of 2010 spot-fixing case, has been provided relaxation by ICC. Butt’s five year ban will soon end in September this year, but if he has not completed the ICC requirements of fulfilling the anti-corruption rehabilitation programme for banned players, then he can face the prospect of having his five-year suspended sentence evoked as well.
Salman Butt hasn’t still accepted that he violated ICC anti-corruption law and was directly involved in spot-fixing in 2010. Until he doesn’t admit his full guilt, PCB cannot request for his relaxation from ICC.
