ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Tuesday summoned Sultan Ali Khawaja, head of the team investigating murder of social worker Parveen Rehman, with a directive to submit a detailed report regarding steps taken for arrest of culprits.
The three-member bench headed by Justice Nasir-Ul-Mulk, resumed hearing of the petition filed by Zohra Yousafm, Chairman Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, for probe into the murder of Ms Parveen Rehman, social worker and Director Orangi Project, through a judicial commission.
During the course of proceedings, Superintendent of Police Ahsan told the court that Sultan Ali Khawaja was in Saudia Arabia to perform Ummrah and he would return till Thursday.
Justice Nasir asked SP Ahsan about the investigation. On this, the SP told the court that he had not gone through the investigation report in detail and had a cursory galnce.
Justice Ejaz Ahmad Chaudhry remarked that a man had gone on a pilgrimage, causing to close investigations. He observed that the SP was not suitable for the post.
The court summoned Sultan Ali Khawaja with record and adjourned the hearing till June 10.
