imageLAHORE: State Minister for National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination, Saira Afzal Tarar stressed upon women doctors to show commitment for their profession, saying the country is in dire need of "lady doctors".

Addressing as a guest of honour at the annual Convocation of Fatima Jinnah Medical College here at its auditorium on Wednesday, the Minister said that the government as well as parents of students invested huge amounts for the purpose, therefore women doctors should see it as their prime responsibility to demonstrate dedication for their profession.

She regretted that almost 50 percent women doctors do not practice their profession, and this trend has deprived poor people and patients in need of medical assistance, especially by lady doctors.

She was of the view that despite ills and complex social problems in our society the lady doctors must live up to their commitment and serve the country.

Education was the only way forward to get honourable status in the comity of nations, she said. Earlier, she gave medals, degrees and certificates among the 242 MBBS successful medical graduates of 2012 at the convocation.

Vice Chancellor of Punjab University, Prof Mujahid Kamran, Principal Fatima Jinnah Medical College Prof Sardar Fakhar Imam and faculty members were also present on the occasion.
