imageISLAMABAD: The Chairman, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) Distributors Association, Irfan Khokhar Friday lauded the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) for taking action against the black marketing of LPG companies.

Addressing an emergency convention organized by OGRA against the black marketing of LPG companies, he said on the request of the LPG Distributors Association, the government has taken notice of the illegal profiteering and black marketing of LPG marketing companies, said a press release issued here.

He said that the convention was held under the supervision of Chairman OGRA Saeed Khan, was attended by Member Gas Amir Naseem, LPG heads, Executive Director Imran Akhtar, Suhail Ahmed Tariq and members of the Enforcement Department, Assistant Directors Shoaib Malik, Aziz Ullah and LPG Distributors Association.

Irfan Khokhar claimed that illegal increase in the LPG prices by Rs. 75 per kg, the LPG marketing companies are involved in black marketing of a Rs 100 million daily and have extorted an amount of 2.5 Billion PKR last 25 days.

"As per the OGRA formula, the LPG prices should not exceed Rs. 100 all over the country, but it is being sold in the market for Rs. 175," he said.

He said that Member Gas Amir Naseem formed investigation teams straightaway and directed the enforcement department to raid LPG plants and to immediately seal the plants of the black marketing companies, adding that directions to cancel the licenses of the black marketing companies were also issued.

Irfan Khokhar added that the Chairman OGRA has assured that there will be no lapse in controlling the LPG prices and that LPG shall soon be made available at economical rates to the people, on which he thanked the Chairman OGRA Saeed Khan, Member Gas Amir Naseem and all the other members of OGRA for acting upon his appeal.
