ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) alongwith Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) have seized nine international illegal VoIP gateway exchanges in two raids in Sialkot.
According to a PTA spokesman on Monday, the PTA and FIA teams carried out the first raid at Flat No. 103 Khan Plaza, Rangpura Chowk, Sialkot and confiscated seven illegal VoIP gateway exchanges, two CPUs, two PTCL broadband DSL connections and a large number of SIMs.
The second raid was conducted at Green Town Bogra in the city, where two illegal VoIP gateway exchanges, two CPUs, two PTCL broadband DSL connections and a large the number of SIMs were siezed, he said.
Two persons were arrested on the spot and were in the custody of FIA for interrogation, the spokesman added.
He said PTA Chairman Dr Syed Ismail Shah had directed PTA zonal offices to expedite joint raids against such illegal activities so that loss to the national exchequer could be prevented.
It may be added that PTA is observing the international traffic coming in to the country round the clock to identify illegal gateway exchanges and track the elements operating them.
PTA Enforcement Division, with the support of donal directorates, is vigilant and making efforts to curb grey traffic in the country, he added.
