ISLAMABAD: The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that River Indus is flowing in Very High Flood at Guddu Barrage, High Flood at Sukkur and "Chashma- Taunsa Reach".
According to daily FFC report on Wednesday, the river Indus is at Medium Flood Stage at Kotri and "Tarbela - Kalabagh Reach". River Kabul is also flowing in Medium Flood in "Warsak - Nowshera Reach", while River Swat is flowing in Low Flood at Charsadda Road Bridge. Other main rivers including River Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal.
Due to Very High Flood situation in River Indus at Guddu Barrage and High Flood situation in "Chashma - Taunsa Reach" & downstream Sukkur Barrage, the low lying/ riverine areas along River Indus in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Districts Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, D.G. Khan, Muzaffargarh & D.I Khan) and Sindh province (Districts Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, Sukkur, Khairpur & Larkana) are being affected.
The concerned authorities are advised to take necessary precautionary measures, so as to avoid loss of life and minimize damages to private and public property.
Provincial Irrigation Departments are advised to ensure round-the- clock patrolling of flood embankments and make necessary arrangements for flood fighting at vulnerable reaches for safe passage of flood peaks in River Indus and its tributaries. The actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1549.00 feet and 1236.70 feet respectively, which are 1.00 feet and 5.30 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet. The Dam Management Authorities are advised to take utmost care and vigilance in operation and strictly follow SOPs and safety guidelines.
According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, yesterday's trough of Westerly Wave still persists over Kashmir and its adjoining areas, whereas Seasonal Low continues to prevail over northwestern Balochistan. Yesterday's Monsoon Low over northeastern Madhya Pradesh (India) lies over central Madhya Pradesh (India). Moist current is penetrating into Punjab and Kashmir upto 5000 feet.
As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, scattered thunderstorm/rain with heavy falls at isolated places is expected over northern & northeastern Punjab (Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sargodha, & Gujranwala Divisions) including upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej during the next 24 hours. Isolated thunderstorm/ rain may also occur over southern Punjab (Bahawalpur Division), southeastern Sindh & Gilgit- Baltistan including upper catchments of Rivers Indus & Kabul during the same period.
Significant rainfall events as reported by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours include; Muzaffarabad = 68 mm and Ravi Syphon = 23 mm.
