imageLAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Friday issued a notice to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for October 1 on a petition for custody of a 5-year-old girl who was treated medically in India after being injured in an accident during a visit.

Justice Shahzada Mazhar passed the orders on a petition filed by the minor girl's grand mother Greta Rose.

During the hearing, the petitioner's counsel submitted that petitioner's son Azeem Shahzad John married with Shabnum who gave birth to a daughter, Jamaria Azeem, in 2009.

He submitted that petitioner's son passed away later on and just recently petitioner's daughter-in-law who was on a visit to India along her daughter also died in an accident whereas her injured daughter was being treated in a hospital of India.

The counsel pointed out that the girl's aunt went to India and approached Delhi High Court for the custody of minor but the court had referred the matter to Pakistani High Commission.

He submitted that it was apprehended that the minor child would be handed over to his aunt. He pleaded to the court to issue directions for handing over the girl to her grand mother being lawful guardian.

However, a deputy attorney general told the court that there were other claimants for child's custody as well. Therefore, petitioner should also made them a party, he contended. He further said that the minor would be kept at a SOS village till the decision of her custody after her return.

The court adjourning the matter till October 1, directed the petitioner to make other claimants as party and also issued a notice to the ministry for providing details about the girl.
