Fahmida urges ECO countries to enhance economic, trade cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly, Dr. Fahmida Mirza on Wednesday urged the member countries of Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) to enhance the mutual trade and economic ties, cooperation in the field of energy and other sectors.

Talking to Pakistan television channel, Speaker said that dialogue, political will and commitment are the ways to implementing the mutual agreement in member countries in different fields.

Fahmida said that ECO have large potential to enhance mutual cooperation in different fields for searching new avenues.

She said that Pakistan can benefits from energy enriched countries of organization like Iran, Tajikistan to overcome energy crisis.

Replying to a question, she said that Parliament is more stronger forum to develop consensus on foreign policy decisions and trade cooperation with foreign countries.

She said that People to people contact and parliamentary diplomacy would support member countries to convert in strong regional block like European Union (EU).

She urged the member countries to open a new window for cooperation to providing a chance for close, active and continuous parliamentary cooperation.

Replying to another question, she said that there is need to fight against the poverty and regional crises to establish peace and socio-economic development through enhanced cooperation.

Fahmida said that whole world has revolves around the economic issues, soft boarder and free trade would be pivotal to provide economic prosperity to ECO countries.

She said that Pakistan have strong commitment to support and maintain peace process in the Afghanistan for stability in the region.

She added that Pakistan and Iran gas pipe line project discussed in parliament for larger national interest.
