ISLAMABAD: The exports of engineering goods from the country to top fifteen importing countries surged by 27.50 percent during the first half of the current fiscal year as compared to the same period of last year.
The exports of engineering goods to Afghanistan, USA, China, UK, Germany, United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, India, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, Italy, Sri Lanka, France, Belgium and Oman reached to US$ 407.36 million during July- December (2011-12).
The exports to these countries during July-December of last fiscal year (2010-11) were recorded at US$.319.52 million, according to figures of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Afghanistan topped the list as exports to this country increased by 52 percent from US$78.42 million last year to US$119.49 million. This was followed by USA, exports to which increased from US$ 50.70 million to US$63.43 million, showing growth of 25 percent.
Similarly, the exports to China increased by 31.4 percent from US$22.99 million to US$ 30.22 million while exports of UK increased from US$ 19.87 million to US$ 26.64 million, showing growth of 34 percent.
The other countries where exports of Pakistan increased during the period under review included Germany, export to which increased from US$24.65 US$ to 26.48 million, an increase of 7.42 percent while exports of UAE increased from US$23.48 million to US$ 26.07 million, showing growth of 11 percent.
Similarly, Engineering exports to Netherlands increased by 40 percent from US$ 11.81 million to US$ 16.55 million, to Saudi Arabia from US$ 13.45 million to US$15.61 million, showing growth of 16 percent while exports to Sri Lanka increased from US$9.83 million to US $12.18 million, an increase of 23.9 percent.
Exports to France increased from US$9.98 million to US$11.60 million, an increase of 29 percent, to Belgium from US$5.31 million to US$9.25 million, showing positive growth of 74 percent while exports to Oman surged from US$2.55 million to US$8.05 million, showing surge of 215.6 percent.
On the other hand, engineering exports to India, Bangladesh and Italy during the time under review decreased by 2 percent, 12.4 percent and 19.8 percent respectively.
The exports to India declined from US$16.46 million last year to US$ 15.99 million, to Bangladesh from US$ 15.53 to US$ 13.60 and to Italy from US$15.49 to US$12.41 million.
It is pertinent to mention here that the country's overall exports during July-April (2011-12) witnessed decrease of 3.48 percent when compared to the exports of the same period of last year.
The exports during July-April (2011-12) were recorded at $19.393 billion against the exports of $20.092 billion during July-April (2010-11), according to data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS)
