pak-suzuzzzISLAMABAD: Production of various light automobiles increased by over 10 percent during the first four months of the current fiscal year as against the same period of last year.

The production of jeeps and cars during July-October (2011-12) increased by 11.97 percent as compared to July-October (2010-11), Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) reported.

As many as 49,558 jeeps and cars were produced during the period under review against the production of 44,261 units during last year.

The production of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) increased by 12.70 percent during the period under review by going up from 5,653 units last year to 6,371 units during the firs four months of current fiscal year.

The production of motorcycles also increased from 491,476 units during July-October (2010-11) to 538,048 units during July- October (2011-12), showing an increase of 9.48 percent, the date revealed.

On the other hand, the production of jeeps and cars surged by 32.31 percent during October 2011 as compared to the same month of last year.

The production of jeeps and cars was recorded at 16,214 units in October 2011 against the production of 12,255 units during October 2010, FBS figures revealed.

LCVs production also witnessed growth of 17.97 percent by increasing from 1,486 units during October 2010 to 1,753 units during October 2011.

However, production of motorcycles decreased by 7.43 percent by going down from 138,733 units during October 2010 to 128,431 units during October 2011, according to the data.

Meanwhile, production of tractors, trucks and busses decreased by 62.30 percent, 32.35 percent and 13.35 percent during July- October (2011-12) as compared to the corresponding period of last year.

The production of tractors was recorded at 7,727 units against the production of 20,498 units, the production of trucks was 732 units against 1,082 units while the production of buses was recorded at 136 units against the production of 157 units.

During the month of October 2011, the production of tractors and trucks decreased by 46.06 percent and 28.01 percent respectively as compared to October 2010, while the production of buses increased by 108.33 percent during the month.

The production of tractors during October 2011 was recorded at 3,267 units against 6,057 units during October 2010. Similarly the production of trucks was recorded at 203 units against 282 units while the production of buses stood 50 units against 24 units in October 2010, the data revealed.

The Over all large scale manufacturing growth indices for July-October, 2011-12 depicted increase of 2.07 percent over July- October, 2010-11 however; the index for October, 2011 witnessed decrease of 1.47 percent over October, 2010, FBS data revealed.
