ISLAMABAD: Imports into the country declined by 3.70 percent during the first ten months of the current fiscal year as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
Imports into the country during July-April (2015-16) were recorded at $36.338 billion, compared to the imports of $37.734 billion during July-March (2014-15), according to the data of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The exports from the country also witnessed negative growth of 12.99 percent by falling from $19.910 billion last year to $17.323 billion during the current year.
Based on the figures, the overall trade deficit during the period under review was recorded at $19.015 billion compared to the deficit of $17.824 billion last year, showing increase of 6.68 percent.
On year-on-year basis, the imports into the country during April 2016 witnessed increase of 2.27 percent compared to the same month of last year.
The imports during April 2016 were recorded at $3.872 billion compared to the imports of $3.786 billion during April 2015, the data revealed.
On the other hand, the exports from the country during April 2016 witnessed negative growth of 13.42 percent and reached to $1.722 billion compared to the exports of $1.989 billion in April 2015.
On month-on-month basis, the imports into the country in April 2016 increased by 8.49 percent when compared to the imports of $3.569 billion in March 2016.
On the other hand, the exports from the country declined by 1.15 percent in April 2016 when compared to the exports of $1.742 billion in March 2016, the PBS data revealed.
