ISLAMABAD: With only a week left to Eidul Azha, blacksmiths and knife sharpeners are having busy days in the federal capital.
The blacksmiths are attracting a number of customers due to sell knives and sharp-edged instruments. Special machines have been installed at various shops to sharpen knives, beef cutters and meat cleavers along with selling Bar-B-Q instruments. For the blacksmiths Eid-u-Azha is a time of lucrative earnings as sale of their hand-made knives and choppers has soared while there is also a rush for sharpening the old ones.
"These are the exceptional days for us as we do sufficient business, much more than the other days throughout the year," said Muhammad Rashid a blacksmith at Aabpara market.
Sharing his experience, he said mostly people buy a set consists of one big knife to slaughter animal, one small to take off skin and a chopper to cut the meat into pieces, costing Rs. 700 to 1500 as per quality.
Other hot selling items on these shops are "angeethi" (hand made oven) and steel bars.
Eid-ul-Azha also provides good business opportunity to vendors who roam around on bicycles to sell a variety of knives and other related articles, displayed on a board. But, their rates are less than the open markets operating in regular shops.
