Weekly inflation goes up 0.72 pc over previous week

ISLAMABAD : The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on July 7, for the lowest income group up to Rs3,000

Vegetable_VendorISLAMABAD: The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on July 7, for the lowest income group up to Rs3,000, has registered an increase of 0.72 percent over the previous week.

The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 309.35 points as against 307.13 points registered in the previous week, according provisional figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000 2001=100 covering 17 urban centers and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined.

SPI for the combined group also registered increase of 0.53 percent as it went up from 295.14 points in the previous week to 296.71 points in the week under review.

As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for the combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 16.65 percent.

As compared to the last week, the SPI for the income groups ranging from Rs.3001 5000, Rs.5001 12000 and above Rs.12000 increased by 0.75 percent, 0.73 percent and 0.33 percent, respectively.

During the week under review average prices of 8 items registered a decrease, while the prices of 22 items increased with the prices of the remaining 23 items unchanged.

The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included garlic, petrol, bananas, diesel, vegetable ghee (loose), red chillies, kerosene and moong pulse (washed).

The items which registered increase in their prices included tomatoes, potatoes, egg hen (farm), onions, LPG (11 kg cylender), chicken (farm), shirting, coarse latha, gram pulse (washed), wheat flour (average quality), rice basmati (broken), wheat (average quality), gur, rice (irri-6), washing soap, voil (printed), mutton, sugar, mash pulse (washed), beef, milk (fresh) and mustard oil.

The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included masoor pulse (washed), bread (plain), milk (powdered), curd, vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), salt (powdered), tea (packet), tea (prepared), cooked beef, cooked dal, cigarettes, lawn, sandal (gents), sandal (ladies), chappal, firewood, electricity bulb, match box, bath soap, gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges (1-100 unit) and telephone local call.
