imageISLAMABAD: Long-awaited serious reforms have been initiated to bring Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) back on track to achieve export target of US$ 50 billion.

"Recent moves by the government have encouraged masses and the business community which has a very positive impact on the economy", Chief Executive Officer of the TDAP, SM Muneer said while talking to business community here on Tuesday.

He said that the government was in process of bringing positive change rules and business environment.

Muneer said that energy crisis and some other issues have been obstructing economic development and exports which would be settled soon as government is serious about economy.

Speaking on the occasion, President Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), Zakria Usman said that delay in resolution of problems cast negative shadow on development process which can be resolved through a proper mechanism.

He said that TDAP should focus on enhancing exports to China, the world's largest export market while promoting export-oriented industry and technical skills.

The FPCCI Chief demanded enhanced presence of local entrepreneurs in international exhibitions, exchange of trade delegations, market research and cooperation by Pakistani missions abroad.

He also demanded alteration in SRO regime and tariff structure which has upset businessmen and impeded growth since long.

Munawar Mughal, Vice President FPCCI said that some of the trade agreements have not helped improve the situation therefore such deals must be revisited.

He demanded steps to improve regional trade and business atmosphere which will trigger development, create job opportunities and push country towards self-sufficiency.

Munawar Mughal said that business community would continue to cooperate with the government despite problems.
