An Accountability Court on Friday extended judicial remand of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal till February 28 in Narowal Sport City Complex Project (NSCCP) scam.

Jail authorities produced the former Interior minister before Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir following expiry of his judicial remand. The court extended judicial remand of Iqbal and directed National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to complete inquiry of the case as soon as possible.

During the hearing, Iqbal came to rostrum and told the court that NAB should inform the court about the reply of a letter it had written to Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. On this, NAB prosecutor said that process of mutual legal assistance (MLA) is still continued.

"Doesn't the amount found in his accounts match with the amount he gets through sales of his assets", Iqbal asked. On this, NAB official said that investigation is still underway. He said that NAB will explain everything in the reference that what the suspect has done.

According to NAB, the record collected so far revealed that instead of getting approval of the Central Development Working Party, the scope of the NSCCP was substantially altered, Iqbal accorded approval at his own and approved the same with malafide intentions without taking the matter before the CDWP.

The NAB said that NSCCP was initiated without any feasibility study in violation of Planning Commission Development Manual regarding feasibility of new developmental projects. It was necessary to prepare feasibility study of projects costing more than Rs 50 million and Iqbal enhanced the scope with malafide intention by directing the design consultants of the NSCCP.

"Later on, revised PC-1 costing Rs 2,498.779 million was prepared and scope was enhanced manifolds and subsequently it was approved by CDWP headed by Iqbal on July 17, 2014. Likewise the 2nd revised PC-1 costing Rs 2,994.329 million was prepared and was approved by CDWP on May 3, 2017," it said.
