No improvement in gas supply frustrates domestic consumers

Chilling weather and shortage of gas have added to the woes of public, despite claims by Sui Northern Gas Pipeline (SNGPL) on improvement in gas supply.

Complaints of low gas pressure and load shedding of natural gas have increased, as the country is gripped with a cold spell. As per details, domestic consumers of some suburbs also appear to complain of water coming from gas pipes.

The SNGPL, despite tall claims, failed to provide uninterrupted gas to domestic consumers, who are left no choice but to use alternative fuels, including LPG, due to the gas crisis.

Earlier, Minister for Energy Omar Ayub Monday informed the National Assembly on Monday that the issue of gas shortage for domestic consumers was persisting because of gap of 250 million cubic meters in supply and demand of gas.

The minister said presently the demand for gas from domestic and commercial consumers and different sectors of the economy was 7 billion cubic feet. The demand for gas was increasing by seven percent every year, which was causing problems for consumers at tail end, he added.

Last week, CNG stations were opened for two days, however in the ongoing week gas will be available at CNG stations for one day only, on January 18.
