LAHORE: No polio case was reported from any part of Punjab; however, eight cases of polio were reported from other parts of the country. Talking to APP here Wednesday, Director Health Services, Punjab Dr. Munir Ahemd said that three cases were reported from FATA, one from KPK, three from Balochistan and one from Sindh.

When asked, about the claim of eradication of polio virus by 2018, he said that unfortunately the target could not be achieved so far. He assured that Pakistan would soon be polio free as hectare efforts were being done to achieve the target of polio free.

He said that concerted and joint efforts were needed for the eradication of polio from the country.

Talking about the current four-day anti-polio drive, he claimed that 19.2 million children from all over the country administered polio drops and the drive was going successfully.

He maintained that people's cooperation was of key importance in efforts to combat polio.

He said that all relevant departments should play an active role in enhancing public awareness about the crippling disease. He said that there was a need to work with national spirit to eradicate polio.
