ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Wednesday, while appointing advocates Khalid Javed Khan and Faisal Siddiqui amici curiae, adjourned a suo motu case pertaining to the transfer of Inspector General Police (IGP) Islamabad till December 24.

A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar also hinted that the court might try Federal Minister for Since and Technology Azam Swati under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution.

During the course of proceedings, the CJP observed that they had read the minister's reply, who was a person of authority. "Do people in power treat their subordinates like this?” he asked.

The minister tendered his unconditional apology, which was rejected by the chief justice, observing that the court would appoint law advisers to look into the implementation of Article 62 (1)(f) in his case.

Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Amanullah Kinrani requested the court to not conduct the federal minister’s trial under Article 62(1)(f). “The court should forgive him as he has learnt enough.”

The case was adjourned till December 24.

The CJP had taken suo motu notice of the transfer of IGP Islamabad Jan Muhammad’s transfer on October 27 for allegedly refusing to take action on a complaint by Swati's son regarding a fight over purported encroachment with a family at their farmhouse.

The apex court had formed a Joint Investigation Team to probe allegations of misuse of authority, misconduct and encroachment against the minister.
