MOSCOW: Russia's August grain exports are expected to reach 4.0-4.3 million tonnes including 3.3-3.5 million tonnes of wheat, a record high for this point in the marketing season, agriculture consultancy SovEcon said on Monday.
"The pace of grain exports, above all exports of wheat, will rise from the second half of the month due to the arrival of the new crop and previously signed supply contracts with Egypt," SovEcon said in a report.
Russia's grain exports have been relatively slow since the beginning of the season on July 1, after rain and cold weather delayed harvesting.
As of July 19, Russia had exported 1.1 million tonnes of grain, down 6.2 percent from a year earlier.
Exports of 520,000 tonnes of wheat were down 37.8 percent.
SovEcon estimates July grain exports at 2.1-2.3 million tonnes, including 1.1-1.3 million tonnes of wheat, 400,000-450,000 tonnes of barley and 400,000 tonnes of maize (corn).
Egypt, the world's largest wheat importer, is the biggest buyer of Russian wheat. Moscow has agreed to supply a large amount of wheat to Egyptian state grain buyer GASC in recent months.
