Years of isolation has taken its toll on Pakistan cricket, as the country once rich in producing quality spinners and all rounders suffers an acute shortage.
These were the views expressed by the national team chief selector Inzamam ul Haq, who said that the moment team lacks both quality off-spinners and all-rounders.
“We don’t have a proper off-spinner at the moment that is the reason I brought in Iftikhar Ahmed,” said Inzamam while speaking at a talk show on local news channel . “Also, we have no specialist all-rounder. I am in search for both right now.”
The 46-year-old added he believes in giving proper chances to all the new players. “My plan is to give proper chances to all players,” the 46-year-old said. “I don’t want to take a player to England and then drop him for the UAE series because he couldn’t deliver in tough conditions.”
Inzamam said even if this team doesn’t deliver results, their quality of cricket will improve. “We have played so much in UAE that our cricketers have lost their variety. Even if we don’t achieve the desired results in the upcoming series, everyone will see that the quality of our cricket rise.” He added, “We haven’t played too many away series in the past six to seven years. I believe in our players’ ability to deliver once they start playing regularly on foreign pitches.”
However, Inzamam-ul-Haq has announced a list of 21 probable cricketers for the English Test series kicking off on July 14.
