ISLAMABAD: Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) handed over nearly 200 completed water supply schemes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to district government Abbottabad.

These water and sanitation projects, completed at a cost of Rs 832.081 million are going to benefit a population of 0.700 million, said a spokesman of ERRA here on Friday.

These projects, implemented by three Line Agencies, TMA Abbottabad, TMA Havelian and PHED Abbottabad, also include several hygiene schemes which speaks of ERRA's commitment to supply clean water to earthquake affected, he informed.

ERRA not only handed over these projects to the district government but also provided staff, vehicles and equipment to the line agencies, to enhance their capacity in meeting the reconstruction and rehabilitation challenge. He said that as water is a primary necessity, ERRA ensured that water supply schemes be completed on a priority basis and it is the outcome of this strategy that a total of 4000 water schemes have been completed in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. While all water and sanitation schemes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been completed, remaining 15 percent schemes in Azad Jammu and Kashmir are set to be completed soon, he added. He said that ERRA has also reconstructed Government High School Kokal Barseen in Abbottabad. ERRA official said that the school, worth Rs 53.03 million, consists of 10 classrooms, three labs and one library and can accommodate 500 students in all.
