 PESHAWAR: Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barrister Masood Kausar Saturday said that Pakistan and Turkey enjoys remarkable people to people cordial relations, but there is need to further cement these friendly ties in boosting economic cooperation among both the brotherly countries.

He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony held here in connection with officially handing over of Honorary Consul Generalship of Turkey to Senator Salim Saifullah Khan.

Turkish Ambassador, Mr. Mustafa Babur Izlan, Former honorary Consul General, Brig (R) Mehmood Jan, Diplomats from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and other countreis, parliamentarians and high ranking officials attended the ceremony.

Governor Barrister Masood Kausar said Pak and Turkey are two brotherly countries having much similarity in culture, tradition and history. Both the countries, he continued, stood behind each other and supported the cause of each other at time of need and crisis.

Infact, he added, Pakistan is mostly at the receiving end at time of need in crisis like natural disasters or military adventures with neighboring country.

Turkey remained the first country which provided help and assistance to Pakistan in the wake of devastating earthquake and floods. People cannot forget practical support of Turkey to Pakistan in 1965 and 1971 wars, he added.

However, its time to boost economic relations between Pakistan and Turkey, Governor reiterated.

Speaking on the occasion, Turkish Ambassador, Mr. Mustafa Babur Izlan said brotherly relations between Turkey and Pakistan are strengthening with every passing day.

"It is gratifying to note that in the development of relations between our two brotherly countries, a stage has now been reached where this relationship can serve as a model for many other states to follow," he added.

Turkish Ambassador added that built upon such sound foundations, the cordial relations between Pakistan and Turkey have stood the repeated tests of time. Politically, we have been supporting each other in all international forums.

Mustafa Babur said he and his Turkish fellows always consider Pakistan as their next home.

He said its time to vow on this auspicious occasion that we shall spare no efforts to further strengthen the fraternal ties between our two countries through mutual cooperation in all fields.

New Honorary Counsul General of Turkey, Senator Salim Saifullah Khan in his speech said his priority will be further strengthening already existing strong cultural and religious bonds between people of Pakistan and Turkey.

He said he will also endeavor to explore avenues for joint ventures of Pakistan and Turkey for the economic stability and prosperity of our country. He said we should have to learn and benefit from the experience and success of Turkey who has recovered from a very problematic situation to a strong economic country.

He also  called for a special meeting to discuss opportunities through which Pakistan can benefit from Turkey.

Earlier, Turkish Ambassador for handover exequatur to newly Honorary Consul General of Turkey, Salim Saifullah Khan. He also hoisted Turkish flag at the resident of Senator Salim Saifullah Khan.
