ISLAMABAD: The 8th death anniversary of renowned classical and Ghazal Singer Ustad Asad Amanat Ali Khan was observed on Wednesday and tributes were paid to him for best singing from all electronic and national radio channels.
Hailing from famous Patiala family, Asad was born in Lahore on September 25, 1955 and was the son of famous musician Ustad Amanat Ali Khan.
He started his musical career performing "Thumri" and then went on to record some of his most popular numbers and Ghazals.
He recorded his first song at the age of 10, which featured on his grandfather's debut album.
One of the songs that featured in almost every concert he performed, arguably his biggest hit, was "Insha Ji Utho", originally sung by his father Amanat Ali Khan.
With heart-rending ghazals, such as "Umraan Langyaan", "Kal Chodwien Ki Raat" and "Ghar Wapas Jab Aao Ge", Asad has left behind an indelible legacy.
He was decorated with the Pride of performance award by the then government of Pakistan.
The popular classical, semi-classical and ghazal singer died relatively young of a heart attack on April 8, 2007 in London and was laid to rest in Mominpura Graveyard, Lahore.
