Mere-Wether Tower

A picture of Merewether Clock Tower or Merewether Tower is located in Karachi, Pakistan. Merewether Tower is one of Karachi’s foremost landmark buildings. It is perhaps the most heard-of place in the city. It is most known because it is located at the confluence of two major roads of the city, I.I. Chundrigar Road (formerly Mc Leod Rd) and M.A. Jinnah Road (formerly Bandar Rd).

Bunder Road

Karachi has a wonderful history that is neither discussed nor… It was in early 1900s that the area now known as Bunder Road. ‘Bunder’ means port, and during the colonial days Karachi was designed in such a way that a major portion of the road featured shops constructed at designated places. The road came to be known as Bunder Road as it led to Keamari, Karachi’s port. After the death of the Founder of the Nation, Bunder Road was renamed M.A. Jinnah Road.

The Empress Market

The Empress Market, located in Saddar, is one of the busiest places in Karachi. A fruit supplier sits by his stall at the Empress Market in Karachi. Empress Market, constructed between 1884 and 1889, was named to commemorate then Empress of India, Queen Victoria.

Karachi Port Trust

Karachi Port is one of South Asia’s largest and busiest deep-water seaports, handling about 60% of the nation's cargo (25 million tons per annum) located in Karachi, Pakistan It is located between the Karachi towns of Kimari and Saddar, close to the main business district and several industrial areas. The geographic position of the port places it in close proximity to major shipping routes such as the Strait of Hormuz .The administration of the port is carried out by the Karachi Port Trust, which was established in the nineteenth century.

Frere Hall (The Liaquat National Library)

Frere Hall is one of the many remnant buildings of the British colonial era that still exist in Karachi. Today, Frere Hall contains a large public library, the Liaquat National Library, which is one of the few good libraries in Karachi. In yesteryears this building was the hub of Karachi’s socio-cultural activities and also served as a Town Hall with regular public meetings, concerts and theatrical performances. The ground floor is now occupied by the Liaquat Municipal Library.
